Hello my name is Julia.
I entirely thank my mum for my love of sewing and my sewing skills. She made her own clothes and most of my and my sisters clothes when we were growing up. She introduced me to the sewing machine aged around 6 or 7 years old and I was immediately hooked.
I spent most of my career working as a fashion designer and pattern cutter.
I am now a mum to two little ones a little girl aged 6 and a little boy aged 4. I love motherhood and my kids inspire everything I do.
I have managed to turn my passion for sewing and motherhood into a small business called Bobbins and buttons, in which I teach sewing classes and also design a range of childrens clothing styles.
I design all the project classes I teach which include a range of clothing styles, accessories and fun things for kids. I also teach dressmaking courses.
My kids clothing styles are all inspired my two little ones, the styles can be made to order, I also offer them as 'make your own' in my sewing classes.
Alongside teaching and designing I regularly write sewing projects for sewing magazines, I also write a blog about my handmade wardrobe, which started in Jan 2014 as a one year challenge to see if I could only make my clothes and not buy any. Now nearly 2 years in and not a single ready made purchase to date. I am totally addicted and can't foresee a time when I will buy ready made clothes again. I now also blog about the things I make for my kids and the ongoing development of the Bobbins clothing range.
In May 2014 I founded the popular Leicester based social sewing event called Sew Sociable which is a mix of textile related guest speakers, workshops and charities all wrapped up in a fun social evening where you can meet like minded creatives.
We hope you'll join us in welcoming Julia to the team!
