The BBC have discovered that the Great British Public are definitely interested in shows that inspire people to get creative and try making things themselves. It started with The Great British Bake off - this show saw a flurry of people rushing out to buy aprons, cook books, mixing bowls and cupcake stands. Then came The Great British Sewing Bee. People were quick to realise this was definitely more beneficial than baking cakes - now you could learn to make your own clothes, soft furnishings, bags and gifts - which last a little longer than cake! Series one and two has seen in a huge surge of interest in dressmaking and people looking to create a comprehensive sewing kit so that they can create their own wardrobe rather than hitting the high street. The show has also inspired hundreds of amazing blogs, projects and communities.
