Embroidery & Quilting
The craft dates back as far as 5th-3rd century BC in ancient China, and remarkably, the skill and practice of handmade embroidery has changed little since its inception, with the same materials and techniques still being used today as an art form.
Quilting is another handicraft technique, where the crafter sews two pieces of fabric together to create a thicker piece of material. It is commonly as an insulating material for bedspreads, but has been used for many different purposes, with the earliest known use dating all the way back to 3400BC, during Egyptian times. Since then, examples of quilting have been found all over the world, showing that it’s practical and artistic purposes are highly regarded.
While there are many practical uses of the craft, it can also be used for artistic and decorative purposes too, adding extra layers to clothes or wall art to add to the aesthetic rather than the practicality of the fabric in question.
Together, embroidery and quilting have both become important artistic practices in the art of sewing, and here at WhiteTree Fabrics we have an excellent range of embroidery and quilting products in our extensive range of Haberdashery, giving our customers everything they need to try their hand at both practices.
